Medical Care Advocacy for Male Survivors

Part 3 of Webinar Series on Improving Services for Male Survivors

Facilitated by Emiliano Diaz de Leon, Men's Engagement Specialist for Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA)

Description: Boys and men that experience sexual violence deserve access to medical care from SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners) accompanied by victim advocates. This workshop focuses on the key considerations needed to advocate for male survivors' medical care after an assault. Practices and resources for supporting hospital advocates will be shared.

  • Identify effective practices that support male survivors receiving medical care.

  • Discuss potential obstacles and solutions specific to working with male survivors in medical settings.

  • Develop ideas for enhancing advocacy services that can be implemented at local medical providers.
