About the Facilitator

Emiliano Diaz de Leon, TAASA, he/him/his/el/su

After more than a decade of experience working for several domestic and sexual violence centers across Texas, Emiliano joined the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault in 2008. He provides training and technical assistance on victim advocacy and prevention of sexual violence to SAPCS-PHHS Block Grant grantees around the state, as well as on enhancing services to male survivors of sexual violence to individuals and organizations in Texas and around the country.


Part 1: Enhancing Hotline Services for Male Survivors

When male survivors of sexual violence decide to disclose their abuse or seek support, we want to ensure that hotline advocates are prepared. This workshop focuses on the key considerations needed to enhance hotline services to male survivors of sexual violence.

  • Tools, strategies, and resources to support hotline advocates will be shared.

  • Identify effective strategies in supporting male survivors on a crisis hotline.

  • Discuss potential barriers and solutions specific to working with male survivors on the hotline.

  • Develop ideas for enhancing hotline services that can be implemented at local rape crisis centers.


Part 2: Increasing Access to Emergency Housing for Male Survivors

Some men who access services from rape crisis centers may experience multiple forms of crisis, including housing insecurity. This workshop focuses on the key considerations needed to increase access to emergency housing for male survivors of sexual violence.

Policies, practices, and resources for supporting shelter advocates will be shared.

  • Identify effective practices that support male survivors in emergency housing.

  • Discuss potential obstacles and solutions specific to working with male survivors in emergency housing.

  • Develop ideas for enhancing emergency housing services that can be implemented at local rape crisis centers.


Part 3: Medical Care Advocacy for Male Survivors

Boys and men that experience sexual violence deserve access to medical care from SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners) accompanied by victim advocates. This workshop focuses on the key considerations needed to advocate for male survivors' medical care after an assault. Practices and resources for supporting hospital advocates will be shared.

  • Identify effective practices that support male survivors receiving medical care.

  • Discuss potential obstacles and solutions specific to working with male survivors in medical settings.

  • Develop ideas for enhancing advocacy services that can be implemented at local medical providers.
